Wainfleet Community Open House & Free Skate

Image
Hi everyone, Passing along the date for this year's Community Open House and Free Skate on Wednesday, April 24th! If you haven't been before, it's a good night to chat with us about our league, which means it's also a great thing to pass along to anyone who's interested in learning more about Wainfleet Youth Softball & T-Ball. There are other sports and community services in attendance, plus the free skate time. You can find their Facebook event page here: https://fb.me/e/82jTQY6SZ We'll have registration forms with us that evening if you'd like to drop yours off in person. Hope to see you there!

Paper copies of registration forms available

Image
Good morning all, For those wanting paper copies of our registration form, you can now find them at the town hall, the library, and the three schools in Wainfleet (and still online here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nCgH5r1tuuf3M-oAEHyL38IPJ5yKEh_u/view?usp=sharing ). Also, this was sent in by one of our league's families: a baseball instructional session run by the Toronto Blue Jays that will be in Thorold in June (among other places). They said it was a great experience last year, so if you're interested follow this link: https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/community/baseball-academy/instructional-clinics . Two months until softball!

Final update for the 2023 season

Image
Thanks to everyone for a great season: players, families, coaches, and everyone else involved! Here are just a few final notes as we close out 2023. There were some items left by the third base bench on diamond 1 (where the minors normally play). Let me know if these belong to you and we'll arrange for you to get them. There was also a white batting glove found; I don't have a picture of that right now, but let me know if you're missing one.     Along the same lines, if anyone didn't get their medal or picture last night for any reason, again let us know and we'll work out a pick-up.   Coach Daryl, who will barely take a break before gearing up for coaching hockey, wants to pass along this info for a program called "First Shift" with Wainfleet Wild hockey:   Wainfleet Minor Hockey will be hosting the First Shift Program this winter for children aged 6-10 (consideration will be given if the child is older than 10) who have not previously registered with

Notice on players for our last game

Image
Hi everyone,    We've had some questions about siblings or other family members having a chance to play tonight, and that's welcome on a night like this! Just be aware that only registered Mastodons players are listed our insurance policy, so anyone else playing does so without that coverage. That includes the grown-ups, so everyone do your stretches before the game!

Updates for July 31st and August 2nd

Image
Hi everyone - all of a sudden it's our last week of the season! We have one more game tonight for both Minors and T-Ball players, and then Wednesday is our pizza party and Grown-Ups vs Kids games.   Here's how the last night will look: The T-Ball players will play their games first while the Minors have their pizza. Both diamonds will be in use as we split the T-Ball players up into two squads. When the T-Ball games are done (at around 6:45), they'll have their pizza and the Minors will take both fields for their games.   A couple of reminders: if you're unable to make it on Wednesday night, please let your coach know tonight so you can collect your team photo and medal. Also, please have a look at the Lost & Found table outside by the clubhouse door this week, as we'll be cleaning that out after the season.   Hopefully we can dodge any bad weather again tonight - no updates means we're on!

Modified: Updates for July 17 & 19

Hi everyone,   Along with our regularly scheduled games and practices, this week features our outdoor movie night on Wednesday! After softball has wrapped up, feel free to hang around at the diamonds or return around dusk - as soon as it's dark enough we'll get the movie rolling on our screen at diamond 1; it's a bedsheet, but it works out fine!    Programming alert! Due to technical issues, we can't show The Rookie tonight - so we'll be watching The Sandlot instead. Just FYI for anyone who was planning on coming!

This week's update

Image
Hi everyone, Here's an update for July 10th and 12th. It's a pretty straightforward week for us! We have our scheduled games and practices on Monday and Wednesday, with the addition of Super Hero Night on Wednesday. That means capes, costumes, and cowls are encouraged - or just play like a super-hero if you don't feel like dressing up!

Update for tonight (July 3rd)

Image
Hi all, this is just a quick note to let you know what we're thinking regarding the weather tonight!  The diamonds will almost certainly be soaked, but we won't really be using them this evening. Since it's our Baseball Buddies night (or maybe Baseball Floodies?), we'll be doing activities around the complex, some of which will be water activities anyway. So, unless it's actually stormy, we'll go ahead tonight rain or shine!

Updates for July 3rd and 5th

Image
Happy July, everyone! We're back at it tomorrow - and let's hope it's a straight run all the way through to the end!   Here is our latest updated schedule, including the new end date of Wednesday, August 2nd to help make up for some of our missed nights:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1osiARwLMeDz_wEPyeXTU_cb1l8lGDxUf/view?usp=sharing   We have two event nights happening this week: Baseball Buddies and Ice Cream Sundae Night. For those new to our league, Baseball Buddies sees us make small groups of T-Ball, Minor, and Major players mixed together, rotating around the complex to game and challenge stations. Players should dress to get wet as a slip n' slide and water balloon batting are among the stations. There's no need to wear team jerseys on this night.   To repeat the info for Wednesday's Ice Cream Sundae Night: after the players have finished their respective games or practices, sundaes will be available for a $2 toonie - with proceeds going to a Port C

June 28 cancellation notice

Hi everyone, We are cancelling our games and practices for the evening of June 28 due to the air quality advisory. We always expect to have some cancellations, but because we've missed more nights than usual this season, we are going to add another day at the end on Wednesday, August 2nd. We will post another updated schedule to reflect that - with a new date for Ice Cream Sundae Night, too! Take care.

Updates for June 26th and 28th

Image
Good morning everyone,   This week, along with our regular schedule for each team, our event night is on Wednesday: our Ice Cream Sundae Night! After games and practices that evening, players, families, and anyone attending can bring a $2 toonie to purchase an ice cream sundae, with all proceeds going to Port Cares.   See you at the diamonds!

Updates for June 19th and 21st

Image
Hi all,    Here's an update for the coming week. There's a new, new updated schedule with a little juggling made after our cancellations. It mostly affects T-Ball games, and you can find it here:   https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OlS1URck2hazPE9DrTZbe_O1nure8Fje/view?usp=sharing   Monday the 19th is our world-famous Backwards Night! What does that mean? Well, backwards hats and shirts are definitely encouraged, for one thing. Maybe try running to third base instead of first, too?   Wednesday the 21st will be Photo Night - for sure this time. Once again, we'll start with the two T-Ball teams that are playing their game, followed by the third team, and then we'll pause the Minors game in between innings for their team photos.   Remember to check our Lost & Found shelf in the clubhouse if you're missing anything!

Corrected: June 14th update

Image
Good morning, everyone, I had the wrong T-Ball teams listed for the game tonight.   For tonight, sigh, we'll be keeping an eye on the weather! The T-Ball schedule has Blue playing Orange, but if the diamonds are dry and the grass is still too wet, our Plan B is to have all three T-Ball teams share the diamond for a game together. We'll see how it looks when 6:00 rolls around.    We'll also put off Photo Night again until next week to wait for nicer weather.

June 12th Cancellation

Image
Hi everyone, I was going to inspect the diamonds soon, but the township messaged me to say not to bother as they're still too wet from the rain today. So, all games and practices are cancelled for tonight, but hopefully this is the last time for this season! See you on Wednesday.

Updates for June 12 & 14

Image
We'll have our Team Photo night on this Wednesday, the 14th, to make up for last week. Once again, we'll take photos of the two T-Ball teams that are scheduled to play a game, then the third T-Ball team, and then the two Minor teams.   As for tonight ... cross your fingers! We'll watch the weather and the condition of the diamonds in the late afternoon and post an update if we have to. Remember that no news is good news, so if we don't post anything else today then it's game on!

June 7th update: Softball cancelled for tonight

Hi everyone, We are cancelling softball altogether this evening, based on Niagara Public Health posting a higher risk assessment for tonight. We'll update everyone on the new date for team photos before next week. Take care!

June 7th air quality update

Image
Good morning all,   Niagara Public Health issued this air quality statement late yesterday afternoon, and there hasn't been any update yet as of this morning.   Based on this notice, we'll be going ahead with our activities this evening, and of course we'll update again if there is any further news to share.   We'll still start with team photos beginning at 6:00, so even should you wish to avoid your child/ward taking the field for a game, that won't interfere with the pictures.

Updates for June 5th and 7th

Image
Hi everyone, here's a look ahead to our first week of June softball.   Remember that the T-Ball division will begin its new schedule for games and practices tonight (you can check which teams are playing here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I7vv_kaU8bLXw0YVzum_lZquqyMsfj_3/view?usp=drive_link ).   Also, Wednesday evening will feature team photo night. We'll start with the T-Ball teams that are playing that night, followed by the practice team - and the practice team should still wear their jerseys!   When they've finished, we'll pause the Minor game in between innings to take their team photos.   One more thing: we do have a Lost & Found shelf in our clubhouse, on the left when you enter. If you're missing a hat, bottle, or anything like that, you're always free to take a peek and see if it's there. See you this evening!

Minor families: League rules for gameplay now available

Image
Hi Minor division families, You can now find a copy of our league house rules for the Minor games on Wednesday evenings here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pFScGBZ9PQVcnJgawTwz5hRGtr1-311P/view?usp=sharing We will also post a copy of these rules in our clubhouse. Coaches will ensure that players are given instruction in the rules to make gameplay as smooth as possible.

T-Ball families: Another season schedule update

Image
Hi everyone, we have an update for T-Ball families. Starting next week, there will be a game featuring two of the teams, while the third team has a practice. We've updated our season schedule so you can see when each team is slotted for a game and when they have a practice. Tomorrow night (May 31st) will be a game/practice rotation as it has been, and the new schedule will kick in on June 5th. You can see the new file here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I7vv_kaU8bLXw0YVzum_lZquqyMsfj_3/view?usp=drive_link

Quick update for the week of May 29th

Image
Hi everyone, we're gearing up for our fifth week, the weather looks good, and we have our first event night on Wednesday. While we have a game for minors and a game/practice rotation for T-Ball, players (and coaches!) are invited to wear a crazy hat or do their up instead. If you'd rather not, that's cool too - but feel free to go wild if you want to. (By the way - you'll still have to wear a helmet for batting!)

Updated season schedule

Image
Happy long weekend everybody! We've had a great start to our season - thanks to everyone for supporting our league, and a special thanks to the many people that are helping out with the players.    We now have an updated schedule for the remainder of our season. Please note off the top that there is no softball this Monday, May 22nd!     Check this file and you'll see the rest of the T-Ball, Minor, and Special Event dates and times.

Night two ... take two!

Image
We'll be trying again tomorrow night, with the same plan as we had for last Wednesday. Here it is copied from last week's post: Players from all divisions are still starting together at 6:00 and taking another turn at the skill stations. Coaches (of which there are many this season - thank you!) will use this time to start creating balanced teams. There's no welcome meeting tonight, so once there are coaches supervising the stations, players can head out and begin.   UPDATE as of May 8th: the bathrooms are open!
